Details: The Australian Fur Seals at Chinamans hat are always fun to play with. It was a busy day out there today, and i always prefer to dive this in winter when there’s less traffic around. However, it was a great day with nice vis on flood slack so i couldn’t resist. Plenty of action, with young pups darting past frantically, old cruisers passing by and lots of play between the teenagers. A swimmer crab took a journey mid-water and was lucky not to be crunched up by one inquisitive seal.

Details: The forecast was for strengthing south easterlies, which put the plans off to head over to Blairgowrie due to the choppy conditions getting over. However, the forecasters got it wrong, and the wind dropped off to about 5 knots, making lovely conditions on the bay, so i thought i’d check out the seals on flood slack. The vis was pretty good, and the seals where in a very playful mood, at one stage two pups where jumping in and out of the water just above my head, but i couldn’t nail any photos of that. All up a pretty good dive, and just as i was getting some really close seal action, i ran out of memory…damn. That will teach me for not dumping my photos every dive.

Details: The water looked crystal clear on the surface, but the strong sunlight and sand content in the water made photographing the seals difficult. The seals weren’t in the most welcoming mood with the large alpha male making some close barking passes and barking at us creatures carrying strange-looking apparatus.

Details: After diving Blairgowrie for a macro dive, i switched to wide angle and dropped in on the Seals at Chinamans Hat. They just weren’t that playful today, and vis was ordinary, so i kept the dive short.

Details: I headed over to South Channel fort with Mick, but the tide was ripping through the area. We cruised back past Chinamans Hat so i thought i’d have another go at the Australia Fur Seals. The vis was just fantastic and the seals were very playful. I was having fun trying to photograph the swimmer crabs and the younger seals decided they looked like fun to play with too.

Details: I’ve been playing around with the idea of buying a boat for a few months, and a opportunity raised its head that was too good to miss. This was a dive to “test drive” a potential boat..you gotta try before you buy! So we took it out to the seals, and had a bit of a play with them.
