Details: A couple of Port Jackson Sharks hung out under a deep ledge at Ant Caves. One of them had a Clingfish on it, acting in a cleaner role. An Eastern Blue Devil staked its territory in the recesses of the overhang.

Details: This was one of those magic days. The seas were flat and the water was the colour divers dream about, with light rays penetrating the water, hitting the bottom and dancing back through the surface in an allure on the ocean can put on. When we arrived at our dive site in about 23m, we could clearly see the bottom. The only thing clouding the visibility were the hundreds of salp and jellies that caught the light beams on their way down. The vis was so good, it actually detracted from this great dive site, it removed the cloudy mystery of the caves and cragged reefscapes. We spent more time around the top of the reef, firstly to appreciate the blue, and secondly to increase our bottom time. The forked tongue-like structure covered in zooanthids was the highlight of this dive. A structure i’d never noticed before here.

Details: We headed out to Ant Caves off 13th Beach near Barwon Heads in less than ideal conditions. Vis wasnt great, but still a nice dive all the same. Not many photos on this dive though.

Details: A great dive at Ant Spit. The dive started with a less than well positioned anchor, so after fixing that up, we headed off to explore the site. There’s excellent terrain in this area but not a huge variety of critters on this dive. A Sergeant Baker was a highlight.

Details: This was a fairly quiet dive on Ant Caves. I tried a strobe diffuser to get some interesting lighting effects. From the boat the water was full of jellies, but none of my pics came out hand holding over the side.

Details: Another cracker of a dive at Ant Caves. After descending we were surrounded by large numbers of fish…sweep, perch, leatherjackets… Close to the anchor position was a wobbegong shark under a ledge. The resident Blue Grouper put in another show but still no photos to prove it. It likes to keep its distance. Phil got a couple of ID shots though. On ascent the large schools of Barber Perch formed again beneath us.

Details: I spent most of this dive in a cave that gives this site its name. A pretty amazing sight with schools of yellow-tailed pike swimming in and out of the cave. Very nice.

Details: I’d sounded up some great looking structure out of Ant Spit that I wanted to check out. Returning to the area with Phil, we found an amazing site with lots of overhangs, caverns and caves. Its now been dubbed Ant Caves and is one of the better dive sites off Barwon Heads. A few Port Jackson Sharks around and just really interesting structure.
