Dive Number: 575 01/04/2014 The Hives, Point Addis Marine Park

Conditions:

Visibilty: 15m

Water Temp: ??c

Bottom Time: 80minutes

Max Depth: 14m

Details: Wow..what a site! This area was picked from the sidescans which looked to contain a field of bommies. That is what it proved to be…small bommies scattered about 20m apart with each containing a treasure trove of hidden gems. Each bommie had a different structure to it, some had large swimthroughs with the ceilings covered in zooanthids and gorgonians. Others had ledges with groups of port jackson sharks or big crayfish. Each bommie was buzzing with life; hence it was dubbed “The Hives”..a perfect description of both the structures and the activity of the area. This dive really put the benefit of marine parks on display. On multiple occasions i was viewing Crayfish, Port Jackson Sharks and Blue Devils in the one field of view. You can see in some of the images, 2 Crayfish, 2 Blue-devils and there is actually 5-8 Port Jackson Sharks hiding in the shadows in the background!!! Incredible! Mixed with schools of Salmon passing through, the uncommon Banded Morwong, and Crayfish just wandering around in the open, this is a dive i wont quickly forget. True Abundance…thanks Park Vic for administering a wonderful Marine Park to the benefit of all.
